Wow, I love the purple-blue hues. How'd you do that, aoi?
BarberofCivil's avatar
Yes, aoi. It's the first time I've tried it, and I kind of like it.

I like it too. Hope you do some more images with TopMod. I am really liking it myself, and its fun to see what others do with it. :)

What's aoi (other than the name of the color)?

Er, also what's topmod?

Nice, shiny shiny shiny, btw... :-)

AOI = angle of incidence, the colour is dependent on the angle that the viewing ray hits the surface.

TopMod [link] it's a topological 3D mesh program that is becoming quite popular for making abstract 3D objects. Can be quite CPU intensive as the mesh gets finer, but have a try, it can get addictive.

Wow, TopMod looks really neat, and there's even a Linux version! So that's how people make that kinda cool abstract thing... :-)

[It did crash like 5 times in the space I was playing with it, and I can't rotate or pan because my WM steals those keys, but OTOH it sure seems less ornery than Blender... :-]

Have fun with it. I don't know how some people do the things they do without it crashing out. I guess as you get deeper in, you just push the remesh button and come back a few hours later...

Wow, you aren't kidding...

I made a silly little object, applied Loop subdivision a few times and got an object with about 35K polys (almost tiny, in CGI terms). Had to kill most of the other apps on the machine to avoid thrashing. Saved it as a .obj file.

Now I'm trying to load that file on my rather slower home machine (ok, a lot slower... 450Mhz P3), and I've been waiting for 25 minutes so far, just for it to load. I know my computer sucks, but this is ridiculous (even blender is kinda sorta usable on this machine)...

Yeah, I find it has troubles re-loading large objects for some reason. Kind of a pain in the butt if you want to save something and do more to it later. Hopefully it's something that is being worked on to be fixed, I should think it is fixable as the some models open up fairly quick in other programs.
