I agree. The standard tropes of fantasy should be a guidelines for the imagination not a hard rule.
Many time here on DA I folks have scolding me for not getting the look of a fantasy character or race right. I have been corrected for giving them the wrong weapon or they felt the image was a little too science fiction looking. None of it is real, I'm just having some fun with art and character design. Still I try to be good natured about it, I'm happy that people take an interest in my work.
