I thought it could be them, too. Things actually point more toward it being sabres. But why is it burned? Unless the sabres live where there's fire? XD
That's pretty much the only part that has me stumped as well. I'd say it's possible the sabres have figured out a way to use fire to their advantage, a little like in The Lion King II with Vitani and Nuka.
Hmm, that's possible! The wolves clearly know how to flippin' TIE things without anthropomorphic paws, so I wouldn't be surprised if the saber-tooths learned how to use fire in that way.
