Because I don't know of anywhere in my limited personal experience where thongs or g-strings are either permitted, or restricted only by sex. I think people should be allowed to go swimming in whatever they want - even naked. But that's a separate issue. I have encountered discrimination against men wearing Speedos and other brief-style swimsuits, where what I believe to be the female equivalent - the bikini (some of them very brief, although considered as a separate category from thongs and g-strings) - are perfectly acceptable. Thongs and g-strings are generally considered a form of "fetish wear", while swim briefs - sometimes even worn by Olympic athletes during competition - are (or should be considered) no more "indecent" than your average bikini that you can find girls of all ages wearing anywhere there is water to swim in. This is less an issue of freedom of dress (although that is something I also support), and more about eliminating sexual discrimination against men.
