Man, that must've been a good time to be alive. I kinda envy my parents.
Tl'dr while I don't regret the 80's and love certain aspects of it they're not a decade I'd ever want to repeat. For all the good there was a lot of bad. Despite a lot of the bad we have now we're actually at an advantage as the internet has given us an incredible means of being there for others and for engendering positive change. It's just a matter of recognizing what needs to be changed for the good and doing our best to be vigilant against those who would use us in the name of greed and for the sake of their own power.
Not really. At least not if you were a minority in the US or a member of the LGBT community. That and anyone living in areas considered by the US to be a third world nation. USA and the USSR both seemed to love invading those. Homophobia, cocaine cartels, AIDS, Iran-Contra, the cold war...it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. This image pretty much represents a world that for the most part only existed on TV and in certain privileged areas/communities. That said bootleg fashion and music helped inspire democratic movements in non-democratic countries and led to a lot of positive change so it wasn't all bad. It just really depends on whether you were fortunate enough to grow up in a reasonably well off family/community or not.
