Yeah, but filtered through mid-2000s post-Matrix scifi shlock clichés,
filtered through a dozen writers who only read wikipedia articles about GitS without even understanding that it's a whole franchise,
filtered through execs who think it's just "robocop mixed with blade runner" and don't know Shirow even exists,
filtered through whatever WETA workshop thought would be cool,
filtered through Kuciara's stupid ideas of what "retro scifi" looks like,
filtered through that dude who worked on CoD and makes everything look bland,
filtered through a director-for-hire who watched the 95 movie once and thought he had Oshii figured out,
filtered through a bunch of aging actors who don't give a shit,
filtered through a DP who thinks teal filters are the coolest thing.

And let's not talk about the music.

It seems also the perfect description of Ghost int he Shell: Arise, made by Bandai without any real Production I.G. involvement.

At least Shirow was involved in Arise, don't know to what extent exactly, but it doesn't seem like they retained the best parts of his input.

the best thing I can say about Arise is that Motoko is a little more expressive in it than in SAC or the movies. Eh.

When you start dissecting the GitS franchise it's tempting to wish for something that combines all the good parts of each version and leaves out all the bad parts, but I don't know if that's doable. We've seen what happens when a bunch of hollywood hacks try to do it.
