Yay! I got a wall of text!

Ok let's see... good point about Donkey Kong... nothing to add about Sega consoles... very good point about localisation and internet services having to be global... and that story, brilliant.

I couldn't agree more with that story of yours. The tiniest thing can have the largest of consequences, and those tiny things are obviously never recorded due to how tiny and numerous they are. Everything is reacting to something else in a huge interconnected web of events.

To compliment that story, here's something I often think about:
Imagine a TV show that got cancelled too soon because of a silly reason, or a game, or anything like that. Angel was apparently cancelled because one of the producers of the show tried to force an executive or something to renew the show early instead of at the last minute like he always did. (I'm probably getting those job titles wrong, but that doesn't matter.) Now imagine you have a machine where you can enter a reality where Angel wasn't cancelled on the fifth season. Imagine the endless possible realities you would be presented with. You can't simply ask for that one decision to be different, because what about all of the other decisions that followed it. There would be a reality where it was cancelled on the sixth season, a reality where it's still ongoing to this day, a reality where it wasn't cancelled there, but was still cancelled because David Boreanaz died shortly before shooting began.

You can't simply have a machine where you can go to a different reality where one decision was different, because there are an endless amount of other decisions that follow it.
