Well, this journal entry I made a while ago explains this a little better:

Just one little PSAIf you want to browse something on DeviantART, a gear appears on the right of your screen and if you hover your cursor over it, this little menu appears:  You can choose to check it or un-check the first option at any time. Before you all turned 18, this option was faded out. Now that you all are 18+, you can either turn the mature filter on or off. As said previously, you can change this any time, but it's usually checked when you reach your 18th birthday.
And then there's this feature that you get when you choose to show mature content:  You see that where it's circled? It means the mature content filter is on, whether it's moderate or strict if you're over the age of 18.
The point I'm trying to make? If you see a piece depicting a naked guy/girl in a sexual pose, an extremely gory pic, or a hetero/same-sex couple doing sexual stuff (so long as it's not very explicit),

I'm still not sure what you're getting at, to be honest with you. Whether it's labeled mature content or not doesn't really matter regarding acceptance, it's the actual content of the piece. We accept mature content so long as it follows site Terms of Service, which most people follow. I just mentioned that people need to appropriately apply the filter if their piece is mature content and that if it's not suitable to be on the site that it's not going to be featured in the group.
