Yeah.

Going by what we see in the game, Link could be more like "meh, we actually kind of hate each other" when Veran says "your dear friend".

But that phrase was interesting enough to use it this way. Also, Ralph is the overly melodramatic one, with the rivalry all in his head and later his admiration of the hero all made bigger just because he is such a ham (I love how the townspeople even have their own opinión of Ralph, too).

I think Ralph could be all dramatic and even romantic with all those exaggerated feelings of his, while Link just gets confused, like "dude, too close". I'm going to slap some sense into you!

I definitely had fun drawing this one. By the way, did you notice Ralph's chest hair?

I see, that is interesting :D You know a lot about the heroes :D I know only about the villian XP
I did, and the freckles :P

I still got the original cartridges, but some time ago I bought the games again on the 3DS and enjoyed them once more. I just finished a complete run this week, with a linked hero Ages game. So I have been playing these games quite a bit lately.

Also, I check this text dump for any specific quotes I do not remember exactly as they are:

gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gbc/9863…

And reading through it to find the quotes I want is a good way to remember small details I may have overlooked.

Just like good villains elevate a hero, so do heroes elevate a villain. Ralph's overblown self-importance is a nice counterpart to Veran's attitude, I think.

I love freckles, so I like adding them to characters that could have some. Since Ralph is somewhat of a redhead, I thought those fit him. Link is also a (blondish) redhead, but it would be weird to suddenly give him freckles (unless they were just a few on his nose área).

I like that you put so much soul into your artwork, and telling me all this makes me inspired :D

Wow. I am glad you liked this on your 100th Veran, then.

These pixel games inspire me to draw, because they are full of little details many people do not see, and really strong scenes that many dismiss. The games that follow the Ocarina of Time model already show the scenes comletely "rendered" as something closer to reality, so there is little incentive for me to draw them.

But these Game Boy, NES and SNES games let me do so much. Do you remember when Link finally got the raft but ended up in a storm and then shipwrecked into Crescent Island with all the Tokay? That scene shows winds so strong that they are carrying monkeys over the ocean. We see this in sprite form, but I want to draw it someday. It is a great mix of epicness and ridiculous, simple fun. It *needs* to be drawn.
