Hmm... Maybe... I think it really depends on what type of character and what type of audience. I think in the case of your work, where the work is really emotionally charged, it might not be as accepted by a wide range of people, but could really mean something to people who can relate to and understand the work. The thing is, this type of audience takes longer to cultivate, so you really have to have patience. If you started doing generic artwork that is easy to understand, that might get you an audience faster, but it may not be that easy to do if you're someone who needs to create from their heart.
