For me... it's an okay theory but it depends entirely on the execution. I don't like the cut and dry versions where it happens just out of the blue with no build up, or if one or all the characters in the theory are one-dimensional with little or no arcs (aka Ahadi/Uru/Mufasa is just abusive/hot-tempered; it was a freak accident with no build up; one of the characters gets mad for no apparent reason). One of my favorite Ahadi-scars-Scar theories is in
's
Missing Pieces. It's not a perfect set-up leading up to the event, but I very much like the fact that repressed issues come boiling over and the raw emotion that results - making it very believable. And the aftermath is important too. In
Missing Pieces, this is also done really well. In a lot of stories with the family-gives-the-scar angle, the aftermath is either abrupt or not discussed enough. Or... over-discussed. I like a balance if you haven't noticed.
And one more thing while I'm thinking of it... I do
not like the theory/stories where Scar's scarring event is what turns him evil/bad/ giving questionable moral compass, etc. BOOM! He has a scar, he's the bad guy now.
Bleh.
