Nice incorporation of the buffalo story from "Tale of Two Brothers", although, I'm surprised Kanali didn't ask how a buffalo attack would leave three parallel scars...

And for that matter, I've never gone for the buffalo theory because wouldn't Taka's eye have been gouged out?

If you asked me, I don't think Kanali bought the buffalo story one bit. He's a no-nonsense kind of guy, so he doesn't even think it's worth his time to ask about something he suspects is BS if it only distracts from the main topic. But I'm glad you liked the nod to the story. ;P

Neither have I for that reason. I mean... did the people who wrote the story ever SEE those horns? Those GORE, not CUT. :nuu: The old school honey badger theory is much more plausible if you had to choose one of the old "Scar's scar origin" standbys.

Well, considering that Ahadi's written description differs from his illustration, I don't think there was much collab between the writers and illustrators.

What about the theory of Ahadi, Uru, or Mufasa giving him his scar?

Very, very good point. :XD: (At the very least not in the coloring department.)

For me... it's an okay theory but it depends entirely on the execution. I don't like the cut and dry versions where it happens just out of the blue with no build up, or if one or all the characters in the theory are one-dimensional with little or no arcs (aka Ahadi/Uru/Mufasa is just abusive/hot-tempered; it was a freak accident with no build up; one of the characters gets mad for no apparent reason). One of my favorite Ahadi-scars-Scar theories is in :iconaudreycosmo13:'s Missing Pieces. It's not a perfect set-up leading up to the event, but I very much like the fact that repressed issues come boiling over and the raw emotion that results - making it very believable. And the aftermath is important too. In Missing Pieces, this is also done really well. In a lot of stories with the family-gives-the-scar angle, the aftermath is either abrupt or not discussed enough. Or... over-discussed. I like a balance if you haven't noticed. :XD: And one more thing while I'm thinking of it... I do not like the theory/stories where Scar's scarring event is what turns him evil/bad/ giving questionable moral compass, etc. BOOM! He has a scar, he's the bad guy now. :P Bleh.

No prob! I've been following your comic for ages (I love it!), and I love to give it a shoutout whenever I can. :aww:

Well, in all fairness, the scarring being what turns Taka bad would explain why he decides to call himself Scar, especially if it was humiliating or traumatizing...

It can for sure. But that's not what I meant. I mean if that scar is the ONLY thing that changes who he is... that's poor story-telling. There has to be events surrounding it and exploration as to why the scar changes him. If the scar is from something especially humiliating or traumatizing, that's something. But, for example, if he randomly gets scarred (like from slipping in the waterhole) and changes his name and personality just from that... well... that's just silly in my opinion.

Ah. I totally agree with that, which is yet another reason I don't buy the buffalo story.

Exactly. "I was dumb. Better change my name so I and everyone around me can remember how DUMB I was." Sure. THAT sounds like Scar to me.
