I can't manage patterns at all. A dress form would make it soooo much easier, I was looking at buying one off ebay, but never have. I pretty much made that^ with trial and error, loosely based off something that I knew fitted me, with some additions and different bits. Lots of sticking parts onto me 
Making my own patterns isn't too bad, as long as you're organised about it, and know which bit you measured where (I wouldn't have a hope making stuff for other people, lol)
I made a dummy one out of some old curtains to check the fit, sellotaping the bones in, ha. That was a good idea. Bin bags are not easy to sew, would've hated it if it was all wrong.
Yeah, I don't think I go about it quite the right way XD
..I've been thinking about making another corset for a while, I've had quite a bit of experience/knowledge since then, I reckon I could do it. But the parts are quite expensive
My sewing machine is a 50s green enamel viking, lol. So I def can't recommend anything, but I haven't messed it up so much that its broken beyond my rubbish attempts at repair yet XD
