Yeah, I almost became a fan when I heard it first showing on Sci-Fi but was kind of disappointed. Either from the lack of what I thought it would uphold or the fact that the Doctor looked too much older to have any real relationship with Rose. But I suppose that's why they changed Dr. Who's actor in the following seasons to David Tennant. And yeah, I didn't know. I don't watch the show. Although my friend, who's a histeric Dr. Who fan like you, kindly showed me the youtube video of the couple kissing. But again I was sort of disappointed because it wasn't really him. Which made be go "uhg" at. 
Oh well.

Well, I didn't think that the age thing was really all that important, I mean he's 900 years old anyway... but Christopher Eccleston was only interested in doing the first season, so they made sure that they had someone else ready to play him.
The whole kissing thing was a bit disappointing but, There was a set of lines that made it almost worth it...
Human Doctor: You made me.
Proper Doctor: Exactly, you were born in battle, full of blood and anger and revenge. Remind you of someone? That's me when we first met, and you made me better. Now you can do the same for him.
Rose: But he's not you.
Proper Doctor: He needs you, that's very me.
It was mostly that last line "He needs you, that's very me."
Watching him leave again like that though was so heart wrenching... But he was right, She'll be good for the Human version of him.

I had no idea that's what they said. What an excellent last word. But still, as you said, it was heart-wrenching.

Well even thought I love the DocRose couple, I still don't watch the show so I'm clueless here.
