One of the duller movies from Toho's early kaiju career... or rather the American version, which is more the western editors' fault than Toho's. Much of the film is mostly pointless banter, with no real character development.
The monster action is the film's only saving grace; despite appearing in a less-than-spectacular movie, Varan is probably on of my favorite Toho kaiju.
