Well SOME manga. I dunno how much you've read but honestly detail doesn't remedy a crappy style/job or poor story. x_x *very picky with manga now*
And American art adopted anime, yeah (and badly), but I would rather say it's all still cartoon-style; anime's just become.. mainstream, I guess? ( I wish I could quote my art teacher telling off some of her class for wanting to draw anime in it.. xD; But alas it was 3 years ago and I can't remember. *headbleed* She made some good points though.. has to be where I started finding my own way. )
Lucky. It was because I tried to learn manga first and didn't know enough to have the basics down.. ick. I've had to spend years trying to make the bad habits I learned go away.

Hurr well either way I'm pretty sure anime is another name for cartoon in Japan and manga just means comic or graphic novel. So...*shrug*
