Just because it's illegal doesn't necessarily make it wrong, right?

It's illegal because it is wrong. If it was ok to cross our boarders without proper ID, then there would not be laws protecting our boarders against crossing it when ever you 'feel' like it.

A good deal of things are illegal that aren't wrong.

For example, it's illegal to kill a snake with a walking stick on the sidewalk in my cousin's college town. Here, in my state, it's illegal to have sex in any position other than missionary. In most places, it's illegal for a woman to walk outside without a shirt on (though perfectly legal for a man to do so).

On the flip side, I think in one of the more Northern states (forgot which), it's legal to kill any group of Native Americans that's composed of 3+ people because it's officially declared a "war party" (I don't know if that one has been stricken from the books yet or not though).

Illegal and wrong are not synonymous.

Crossing the boarder without being documented, in either direction, is illegal. It's that simple. Try to spin it however you wish ... the law is the law, ignorance is not a defense that is acceptable in court.

Why is it illegal? You said that something is wrong because it's illegal. I gave you a list of things that are not wrong but are still illegal. So why, praytell, is it illegal to cross the border without documentation?

If you can not figure that out for yourself, then I suggest that you give it a try and test your theory out. Also, if you happen to come upon three Native Americans, you can test that other law, as well, and see where that gets you ....

Good job avoiding the question.

WHY is being "illegal" illegal? I think it's already firmly established that something being illegal doesn't inherently make it "wrong". So, what makes it wrong? They are people coming over and taking jobs nobody else will do, so...

As for the Native American thing, it's in the law books, therefore, it should be fine and dandy to kill that war party, eh? If we're using the logic "if it's illegal it's wrong" and then the converse is true.
MasterOfPointillism's avatar
I wasn't using the logic of "if it's illegal it's wrong", someone else was trying to get me to subscribe to that premise. I was using "if it's illegal, it's illegal" ... I don't care why the illegals are coming here, and neither do 70% of Americans who are for the federal and State of Arizona laws.

Still, feel free to test out your theories and let us know how that works out for you ...

So it's illegal because it's wrong because it's wrong because it's illegal?

English is not your first language, is it? It's double speak ....
