Are you guys still planning to do more contests? I've been out of the bioillustration game for a while, working on other stuff. But I'd love the opportunity to do some more scientifically-oriented illustrations. And those contests helped motivate me.
I am a horrible, horrible person and haven't even gotten to journal-featuring the last contest winners. 
We have a huge list of possible contests to get through, but between me being generally busy and Hedwig-the-Strange getting married, we are running this ship on a skeleton crew.
I am also not sure how to change the deadline/guidelines in order to increase the number of eligible entries. The last contest was kind of a flop.
