Thanks for the great attitude on this subject. One technique that might help you would be to just start with a loose sketch with color blobs and then work slowly adding more detail, without zooming in. Another way to improve is to watch speed-paintings on youtube, you can choose one artist who inspires you and most likely there will be this kind of resource uploaded by that person online. I personally like Sara Tepes's technique, but there are many others to look up to. Anyway, I hope this helps. Watching others draw always teaches me a lot. Good luck!
