Yep, you can make a character on any data center and keep your current one where it is.

Sorry for responding late but I love it a lot!! I have an Au Ra character named Ikumi (Xeala) and she is an archer and I just joined the Maelstroms and I got my Chocobo! (named them Yori after my lil green-cheeked conure). I'm lvl 33 right now! I've been grinding a bit. x'D
