Well Ash loses unfortunately.
I feel like Ash may take a "vacation" to the Alola Region but either discover's the Island Challenge and want to take part in it or goes there to take part in it. Regardless, I'm still pretty bummed that this hyped up battle ended like the other Leagues. My problem with the Pokemon Anime is that in going for so long, character development can be really awful. If the XY and XYZ were it's own standalone series, then it would have had great development, but now it's assumed that Ash will go to Alola with only Pikachu. It's upsetting to think about his Greninja which he has a huge bond with getting sent back to the lab :/
The funny thing is I've watched only 5 episodes of the XY/XYZ anime, yet I hear about it so much that I know what's happened

Same. They hyped up that final battle so much, especially that giant orange water shuriken thingy. Also Greninja is my favourite Pokemon, so that makes me even more salty (HOW DID A GRENINJA NOT DEFEAT A CHARIZARD?!??)
But yeah I agree, if Ash just leaves Greninja behind that would be so dumb. I mean, they worked really hard to finally be able to go synchro and make use of their full power, but then all that would go to waste! But if Ash did go to Alola, I don't think he would take Greninja. So maybe there will be a new cast of protagonists?

It's really questionable as to what will happen next. If he does go to Alola without Greninja, I sure hope the writers come up with a genuinely good reason to send him off.
